About Kangaroo Footwear:
Kangaroo shoes, the original shoes with pockets, first
appeared on the scene in the late 1970s as somewhat gimmicky
running shoes that were specially fitted with a small zip-up
pocket on the side with which to store keys and small change.
What began as an ingenious idea dreamt up by its creator, Bob
Gamm, an architect by profession and a jogger by avocation,
soon grew to a huge success commercially and by the mid 80s,
many other established athletic footwear name brands had also
joined the bandwagon by releasing their own versions of the
shoe with a pocket.
From its running shoe origin, the aptly named American sneaker
brand soon expanded to covering sport shoes designed for other
sports, including football (American Football), basketball,
tennis, and hockey. By the end of 1980s, however, the
popularity of Kangaroos shoes had declined to such an extent
that they were all but defunct and seemingly forgotten by
everyone. It was only a decade later by the late 1990s that
Kangaroos shoes were in vogue again due to the retro revival
fad that was and still is sweeping the world today.
